Using natural materials such\nas twigs, fabric, and wood, I created a mixed-media installation that symbolises my journey of\nreconnecting with my Wiradjuri and Narungga heritage.\nGrowing up, I didn’t learn about my culture, our language, traditions, celebrations, or dances, so this piece\nrepresents my journey of learning and reconnection to my identity and heritage. Each element symbolises\na step along that path: the woodburning goanna connects to country and storytelling, while the painted\nfabric reflects my movement toward rediscovery and belonging.\nBecoming a SAASTA student has inspired me to learn more about my culture and to express that through\nart. Living in the desert also influenced the bush textures and earthy tones that appear throughout the\nwork. I want viewers to see someone on a journey, searching, learning, and growing in cultural\nunderstanding.\nThrough this process, I’ve discovered how art can tell deep personal stories and help reconnect with\nheritage.
