Mother and child, kept apart. Australian child removal policies have fractured the psychosocial and cultural development of generations of Aboriginal children. While national investigations have acknowledged the atrocities of the Stolen Generations, Aboriginal children continue to be placed in out-ofhome care at disproportionate rates. The dense fields of pattern are knowledge; symbols accumulating over thousands of years, encoding the human truth of connection: the breast that feeds, the body that creates, the bond that sustains. Purple exists throughout Country in the Mulla Mulla blanketing the inland, the iridescent wings of the Jewel Beetle, the bruised tones of desert dusk. It is ancient and often misread. Like the culture it carries. Characters sit on top, replacing cultural stories. Born from this Country, distributed by hands from elsewhere while the story stays and the profit leaves. Beneath them, the pattern continues, indifferent, waiting. The child’s silhouette offers the same gesture as breath pushing ochre onto rock. Reflecting the marks that have lasted thousands of years. Presence across time. Proof of continuity and survival. A barefoot child who belongs to Country so completely that the boundary between body and earth dissolves. The absence of a barrier is not a failure of care. It is the oldest form of it. The woman does not conform to the archetype projected onto Aboriginal womanhood. Aboriginal identity is not a skin tone or a face that matches someone's expectation. That’s how we got that little piece of land.

Nepouie is a place where we mustered feral goats on horseback, trucked them down to Peterborough to the meat works. This is the place where my grandfather was born, it is where he died, these drawings in clay are my memories of childhood.

This work was produced during a Ku Arts workshop with Regional Arts Funding through Country Arts SA. The sisters are the constellation of Pleiades and the other star Orion is said to be the man Nyiru or Nyirunya. Nyiru is forever chasing the sisters known as the Kunkarunkara women as it is said he wants to marry the eldest sister. The seven sisters travel again and again from the sky to the earth to escape Nyiru’s unwanted attention. They turn into their human form to escape Nyiru, but he always finds them and they flee back to the sky. As Nyiru is chasing the sisters he tries to catch them by using magic to turn into the most tempting kampurarpra (bush tomatoes) for the sisters to eat and the most beautiful ili (fig) tree for them to camp under. However, the sisters are too clever for Nyiru and outwit him as they are knowledgeable about his magic. They go hungry and run through the night rather than be caught by Nyiru. Every now and again one of the women fall victim to his ways. It is said that he eventually captures the youngest sister, but with the help of the oldest sister, she escapes back to her sisters who are waiting for her. Eventually the sisters fly back into the sky, reforming the constellation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0664/1270/8054/files/Jennifer_Ingkatji_-_Seven_Sisters_Story_-_Image_-_OUR_MOB_-_2026.jpg?v=1782451439
jennifer-reid-bush-medicine
Jennifer Reid - Bush Medicine

Jennifer Reid

Bush Medicine

acrylic on canvas

118 x 91 cm

This painting tells the story of bush medicine, Irmangka Irmangka, which my mum and grandmother taught me how to make. This painting is what I see when I go camping and look up at the stars and beyond and remember what she told me.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0664/1270/8054/files/Lisa_Khan_-_Star_Burst_-_Image_-_OUR_MOB_-_2026.png?v=1782451380
lucien-stewart-and-sandra-bayet-ancestors
Lucien Stewart and Sandra Bayet - Ancestors

Lucien Stewart and Sandra Bayet

Ancestors

Posca (acrylic) on canvas

41 x 31 cm

Luciens words: scales, bricks and waves, the big semi circle is the sun rising from the horizon.

Connection to Country and the urban environment (the bricks) depict where we live now and the surrounding environment we live in.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0664/1270/8054/files/Lucien_Stewart_and_Sandra_Bayet_-_Ancestors_-_Image_-_OUR_MOB_-_2026.jpg?v=1782451427
lucien-stewart-and-sandra-bayet-rising-sun
Lucien Stewart and Sandra Bayet - Rising Sun

Lucien Stewart and Sandra Bayet

Rising Sun

Posca (acrylic) on canvas

41 x 31 cm

Mother and Son, our connection to each other and our Ancestors.

Connection to Country and the urban environment (the bricks) depict where we live now and the surrounding environment we live in.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0664/1270/8054/files/Lucien_Stewart_and_Sandra_Bayet_-_Rising_Sun_-_Image_-_OUR_MOB_-_2026.jpg?v=1782451426
lyn-lovegrove-niemz-kainggi-ngrilkulum-rainbow-celebration
Lyn Lovegrove-Niemz - "Kainggi Ngrilkulum" (Rainbow Celebration)

Lyn Lovegrove-Niemz

"Kainggi Ngrilkulum" (Rainbow Celebration)

acrylic on canvas

100 x 100 cm

"Spirit Of Our Ancestors"
This painting is in remembrance of all Aboriginal warriors who were our protectors before and after WW1.
There were many Aboriginal people across Australia who volunteered and served our country.
There were 21 Ngarrindjeri men who volunteered to serve in WW1.
My Great Uncle Miller Mac was my Grandmothers brother and the son of Pinkie Mac,
He also volunteered and served in WW1 and gave his life for our freedom.
LEST WE FORGET.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0664/1270/8054/files/Lyn_Lovegrove_Niemz_-_Kainggi_Ngrilkulum_Rainbow_Celebration_-_Image_-_OUR_MOB_-_2026.jpg?v=1782451381
lyn-lovegrove-niemz-spirit-of-our-ancestors
Lyn Lovegrove-Niemz - Spirit Of Our Ancestors

Lyn Lovegrove-Niemz

Spirit Of Our Ancestors

painting

100 x 75 cm

The last great corroboree in celebration of the rainbow (Kainggi) was at Raukkan then known as Point McLeay mission in 1899 My Great Grandmother Pinkie Mack attended the corroboree.
The rainbow song was past down in our family.

Ngarrinjeri Ngrilkulum 1999 Centenary Celebration was held at Raukkan welcoming everyone.
